Volunteer Opportunities

Grande Prairie & Area Safe Communities values the work that our volunteers do for us!  

Safety City Halloween 2021
Event Volunteers
Location:  10318 92 Street, Grande Prairie, Alberta

Saturday, October 30, 2021 - 12:00pm - 4:00pm
30 volunteers needed

Volunteer Form at the bottom of the webpage to volunteer for this event!
Please indicate preferred task and shift availability.  Shifts can be 2.5 hours or 4 hours in length.

UPDATE:
Thank you to all the volunteers that have offered to help!  We are still in need of:
8 more 4 hour shifts from 12pm - 4pm to be covered
and
3 more 2.5 hour shifts that run 1:45pm - 4:15pm.


Volunteers must:
​Wear comfortable, warm walking shoes with closed toes.  No sandals for safety reasons.
Arrive at shift location 10 minutes before agreed start time.
Be prepared for forecasted weather conditions on day of event.
Halloween costumes may be worn if desired.  Please ensure these are friendly to small children as most children attending this event are under 6.  Please do not choose scary or gory costumes.
Long periods of standing or walking.
Frequent bending to pick up items.

Be prepared for working outdoors.
Tasks that will be done include:  working admissions tables, running carnival games and/or other activities, handing out candy, handing out crafts, Floating to cover breaks for volunteers and assist event coordinator, operating the photo booth, cleaning high touch surfaces and washroom maintenance, dispensing hot chocolate, and other tasks.

Volunteers wanting to help out before or after the event for set up and/or clean up are welcome.

Youth under 14 should volunteer with a parent or other adult guardian.
Youth aged 14 and up may volunteer on their own with signed parental consent form. 
Youth under 18 residing with parents or legal guardians require a parental consent form to volunteer.
If volunteering for an event with a parent accompanying a minor for the entire shift a parental consent form is not required.

We need you! We always have room for more volunteers.


Program Support Volunteers: Help program facilitators keep the programs running smoothly.
Administrative Support: Is anybody's filing up to date?  We could use your help with this!
Maintenance: If you are handy there are always a few little things that need fixing.  
Fundraising:  Fundraising Committee, Casinos, Bingos, Fundraising events, and other opportunities.
Special Events:  Many hands make light work.  We will always appreciate your time and kindness.
Youth Opportunities:  Help out during summer programs, Safety City Halloween, Home Alone Program Support, Office and Administrative support.

Please note that any volunteers that assist us with programs involving children or youth will be required to provide the following before their first volunteer shift.
Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
Child and Youth Intervention Information Check
For our volunteers, we can provide a letter to waive the fees on the criminal records check.
