Safety City Program Leader

We are seeking a cheerful person with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to join our team.
 
  
Safety City Program Leader will work as a team with the Program Coordinator to facilitate activities for Grande Prairie & Area Safe Communities and Safety City in a safe and inclusive environment. This role will be support to fulfill our mission to promote public safety and reduce the incidence of injury in Grande Prairie & Area through the maintenance and operation of Safety City and other programs designed to educate the public about safety and injury prevention.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with program design, planning, set up, delivery, and clean up as required daily
  • Assist with Social Media promotion of events.
  • Assist with planning, execution, and clean-up of events or activities that Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities are hosting or partnering in.
  • Assist with daily administrative tasks as needed.
  • Provide support to program coordinator in delivery of programs.
  • Learn program segments with a goal of teaching/leading some program activities.
  • Assist with coordination of Home Alone program.
  • Maintain a positive profile for Grande Prairie & Area Safe Communities in the Peace Country Region.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the Executive Director.
  • Manage daily activities of Safety City: admission, management of Safety City funds, maintaining cleanliness & safe operation of activities.
  • Supervise & coordinate birthday parties or group bookings, as needed.
  • Assist in informing visitors of safety rules.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Some experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Positive Customer Service Skills
  • Friendly, positive and professional attitude
  • Able to handle long periods standing or walking
  • Able to lift and carry items up to 40lbs
  • Enthusiasm for working with people to educate on injury prevention.
  • First Aid Certification is an asset
  • Program/Event Coordination experience is an asset
 
The successful candidate will be asked to get a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector and a Child and Youth Intervention Module Check as they will be working with children and youth frequently.
 
Hours and Wage:
8 weeks, 30 hours per week. Some flexibility required to accommodate various program schedules. Most often, we work Monday to Friday but on occasion, we may work a Saturday. $16/hour.


*This position is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs 2019 grant program. Successful applicants must meet grant criteria.  To be eligible, participants must:
  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
